Alexandrian: A tradition of witchcraft started by Alex and Maxine Sanders.

Ankh: Egyptian hieroglyph for life/reincarnation.

Aradia: A name for the Goddess, used by Tuscan witches.

Arianrhod: Meaning 'Silver Wheel', it is a welsh name for the Goddess.

Athame: The ritual black-handled knife, used interchangably with the sword. Not generally used for cutting, but rather for the channeling of energies.

Bollene: White-handled knife, used for cutting.

Book of Shadows: A witches' book of rituals and instructions. Every one is personal and different.

Cernunnos: The Celtic Horned God.

Cerridwen: Welsh Crone/Mother Goddess.

Chalice: Ritual cup. Represents water.

Deosil: clockwise/sunwise.

Esbat: A minor coven meeting (not a Sabbat).

Gardinarian: A tradition coming from Gerald Gardner.

Great Rite: An advanced ritual involving sexual intercourse.

Grimoire: Another name for a Book of Shadows.

Halloween: Samhain.

Handfasting: pagan ritual wedding.

Herne: Old English hunter god.

Hexagram: 6-pointed star.

Karma: 'cause and effect'. A concept that what you do comes back to you.

Magus: High-level male witch.

Pentacle: 5-pointed star within a circle.

Pentagram: 5-pointed star.

Sabbat: The eight major seasonal festivals, 4 greater, and 4 lesser.

Sigil: A seal or sign.

Skyclad: naked.

Talisman: an object designed for a specific use/person.

Widdershins: anti-clockwise.
